Global Sharks and Rays Initiative
An ambitious 10-year global strategy to halt the decline of sharks and rays
The knowledge of how to conserve sharks and rays globally already exists, but current conservation efforts need to be scaled up dramatically, and more governments need to become serious about conserving these critically important animals.
WWF and TRAFFIC have joined forces with WCS, the Shark Trust, Shark Advocates International and advised by the IUCN Shark Specialist Group, developed a global 10-year strategy to conserve sharks and rays - Global Priorities for Conserving Sharks and Rays - that was released in February 2016.

The global strategy consists of four interlocking strategies, all of which are essential for success:
- Saving Shark and Ray Species;
- Managing Shark and Ray Fisheries for Sustainability;
- Ensuring Responsible Trade in Shark and Ray Products; and
- Encouraging Responsible Consumption of Shark and Ray Products.
The scope of the global strategy is considerable, and WWF and Global Shark and Ray Initiative partners look forward to working with other like-minded organisations to halt the decline of sharks and rays in the years to come.
